Gamay Forever

22nd April 2023 2pm3:30pm

A darling of the natural wine movement and a favourite amongst sommeliers thanks to its ability to pair so well with a wide range of food, Gamay wasn’t always as popular as it is today.

Often overlooked in favour of its most fashionable cousin Pinot Noir, for decades Gamay’s image was associated to some overly commercialised, yet often one-dimensional, examples of Beaujolais Nouveau.

Today Gamay, a grape with the potential to yield incredibly terroir-expressive, age-worthy wines, is treated with the respect it deserves by both vignerons and drinkers. And while the vast majority is grown in the Beaujolais region, many successful examples can be found across France and beyond.

Join our head sommelier James Lewis in the dining room La Cachette to taste and compare a selection of today’s most distinctive examples of Gamay from different regions.

The Wines:

Dandelion Petillant Naturel 2021

BiNaume Le Gamay de l'Allié 2019

Pierre Andrey GA17 2017
